I'm thrilled to be a part of the newest 'Unconventional Guide' in Chris Guillebeau's series. My business was featured as one of the contributors to the guide which was quite an honor and a pretty humbling experience to be able to reflect upon how far I've come over the past 10 years.
There is no prescribed course of action to take when graduating from art school. There was no pre-drawn path for me to follow as I took the leap into running a business on my own. It has been the learning journey of a lifetime. Had I known, starting off, the volume of things that I would need to figure out for myself along the way, I may have found it entirely too intimidating and given up. But if you know me at all, I am dedicated and persistent. Once I have a goal set in my mind, I will work endless hours to see it to completion. I managed to take things one step at a time, researching and absorbing as much information as I could. I did not have a direct mentor to show me the ropes, and would have done just about anything to have the information that I know now in one compact package like this book.
If you are a creative entrepreneur, or aspire to be, this is quite a valuable resource. Jen Adrion and Omar Noory, of These Are Things, interviewed 21 different businesses to be a part of this guide, each with their own perspective. Check it out if you get the chance, or hop over to Chris' blog, The Art of Non-Conformity to get some inspiration about following your dreams and living outside the conventional box. The most exciting thing about being in a business of my own is having the creative freedom to evolve in any direction I choose. There will always be new challenges, new ideas and exciting milestones to reach. Thanks for being part of my journey! :)
It is hard to believe the end of October is just around the corner. I hear there is a forecast of snow tomorrow here in the midwest...something I have mixed feelings about. I am not crazy about being cold, but I love the changing of the seasons, the crispness in the air, and everything that relates to the winter hibernation to come... sweaters, blankets, endless pots of hot tea, long hours in the studio working away and chatting with my studio mates. Most of all I love all the shows that come around the holiday season where I get to meet my customers and help them find the perfect gift for their near and dear. I have posted a list on my Events page, and also below for you to reference this holiday season if you'd like to come out and see what is new. Of course you can always shop online, in your pajamas with a big mug of hot cocoa if that is more your style. I will be adding new products to my website as the holidays draw nearer.
I've been working away in my studio designing new products that I think you will love. I'll make sure to let you know when they are ready to go!

I've hardly been able to contain the excitement of all the new things that have been happening this fall.
I was honored to be awarded a Greater Columbus Arts CounciI Supply Grant which allowed me a bit of capital to help purchase some new equipment for my studio. Once I received my boxes of new supplies, I realized I needed reconfigure my space to utilize them in an efficient way.
As it turned out, synchronistic events allowed me to move my studio to a lovely space in the same building where my studio had been residing for the prior two years. An easy move, and a chance to reorganize and get a fresh start. I always love the opportunities and inspiration these changes of perspective bring. I'm getting used to the new set up and enjoying the amazing light. Now if only I could find more hours in the day to enjoy the new space to its fullest. Here it is, where the magic happens!
Okay... but really, the BIG thing that I have had a hard time not spilling the beans too soon about is.... THIS! Yes, this brand new website, hot off the press. To be honest, it has been rolling around in my head for a couple years now, but this year I decided I needed to really invest the time to hunker down and bring it to fruition. It feels good to see my vision come to life. So here it is! I am so happy to finally present it to you, and just in time for the holidays. It is designed to make it much easier to shop for custom items and to see a full breadth of the collections that I present when I am on the road at retail events.
As part of the official launch celebration, I am offering a discount for none other than Black Friday weekend. Use the code LAUNCH2012 at checkout to receive 10% off your purchase of $100 or more. Coupon is good Friday, November 23 - Sunday, November 25.
